Graminno: Innovation Rooted in Rural India
An Accion Labs social impact initiative working with rural communities to build sustainable livelihoods through agriculture, knowledge, and long-term partnership.
It Started with a Purpose

People often assume initiatives begin with plans and presentations.
Graminno began with a question.
How can long-term opportunities be created in places that rarely receive sustained attention?
In 2020, teams from Accion Labs began spending time in Aatley, a small village in Maharashtra. There was no predefined program. The intention was to listen first and understand daily realities directly from the community.
Conversations took place on farms, inside homes, and during village gatherings. Before any idea took shape, relationships did.
Graminno grew from that foundation.
Meet Aatley: A Village Far from Opportunity
Aatley sits within the Sahyadri mountain range, about 225 km from Mumbai.
A small village with strong farming traditions but limited access to markets.

Seasonal Farming
Weather-dependent
The challenge was never effort or knowledge.
Access to consistent opportunity remained the missing link.
Graminno: Accion Labs' Social Impact Program
Graminno = Gramin (Rural) + Innovation
The initiative reflects a belief that innovation should not remain confined to urban ecosystems or enterprise environments.
Graminno focuses on long-term rural development through knowledge sharing, partnerships, and sustainable livelihood creation.
Not charity.
Not short-term intervention.
A steady partnership with the community.
Bringing the Right Expertise Together
Meaningful change required agricultural expertise alongside community participation.
Accion Labs partnered with Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, a leading agricultural university in the Konkan region with deep regional farming expertise.
The collaboration introduced:
Scientific Cultivation Guidance
Soil and Crop Assessment
Farmer Training Programs
Organic Farming Practices
Post-Harvest Process Support
From Seed Farming to Harvest
Crop selection followed careful evaluation of soil, climate, and long-term income stability.
Turmeric emerged as the strongest starting point.
1. Suitable for Local Terrain – Thrives in Sahyadri soil and monsoon patterns.
2. Consistent Market Demand – Used across food, wellness, and pharmaceutical industries.
3. Higher Value Potential – Offers better long-term income compared to traditional crops.
Before planting began, learning came first.
Knowledge moved both ways. Agricultural science met generations of local farming experience.
Farmers participated in hands-on learning sessions covering:
1. Organic cultivation practices
2. Soil health management
3. Natural pest control methods
4. Planting and harvesting cycles
5. Drying and storage techniques
Graminno’s First Turmeric Harvest | 2026
Nearly 5 Tons of Organically Grown Turmeric
That was the outcome of Aatley’s first commercial harvest.
Families across the village worked together to harvest, sort, and sun-dry turmeric roots. For many residents, this marked the first time agricultural effort connected directly to structured market opportunity.
The harvest represented more than produce. It was proof that patience and collaboration can create real change.
Graminno Organic Turmeric
100% organic, no chemicals or pesticides
High natural curcumin concentration
Farm-to-home, fully traceable origin
Typical Retail Turmeric
Often contains starch fillers and dyes
Diluted curcumin content
Multiple intermediaries, origin unknown
Turmeric contains curcumin, widely associated with the following benefits:
1. Reduces inflammation
2. Rich in antioxidants
3. Aids digestion
4. Supports heart health
5. Strengthens immune system
Graminno focuses on cultivation methods that preserve these natural qualities.

Income Stability
Farmers gained access to a viable commercial crop.
Women’s Participation
Women became central contributors during processing and sorting.
Skill Development
Agricultural knowledge now combines science with local expertise.
Community Ownership
Decisions increasingly come from within the village itself.
The Thinking behind Graminno
Most people know Accion Labs for engineering and technology work across global enterprises. Graminno reflects the same problem-solving approach applied in a very different environment.
Understand the Problem Deeply
Work with the Right Partners
Stay Long Enough to See Results
Innovation is not limited to technology environments. Sometimes it begins with soil, seasons, and people.
This is just the Beginning

Graminno continues to grow step by step. Growth will remain thoughtful rather than rushed.
Future efforts will focus on:
- Strengthening agricultural stability
- Expanding opportunities within the village
- Building a repeatable rural development model
Be a Part of the Story
Every harvest carries the story of a village choosing progress on its own terms.
The first harvest of Graminno organic turmeric is now available.
Every purchase directly supports farming families in Aatley and contributes to the next growing season.
